For the international couples who dream of getting married in Belize have to meet certain requirements before they tie the knot. Below are a few pointers for couples that want to get married in Belize.
- Couple must be in the country for a minimum of three (3) days prior to their marriage license application.
- The application process takes one (1) business day
- A proof of citizenship, passport or birth certificate is required. All documents must be original documents.
- An original divorce certificate or death certificate (if applicable) is also required and all certificates must be original documents.
- A Senior Justice of the Peace will then witness the signing of the application once all the requirements are met.
- After the one (1) day application processing period the license to marry will be ready.
- Weddings are performed by a Senior Justice of the Peace who has authority to marry people.
- Two (2) witnesses are required for the wedding ceremony.
- The marriage must be registered with the Registry Department after the marriage ceremony has been completed.
- Marriage license and formal registration takes about 6 – 8 weeks and your certificate will be mailed after.
